Day Two

Saturday, May 3rd
7:30am We woke up refreshed (but hungry!) and got down to brunch at the casino restaurant.

11:00am We finished our long, social meal. Andrea, Lois, Shandi and myself had come down about 20 minutes before Cindy made it down with her husband, and then we began conversation with some other Styx fans, one of the ones I remember most was Chris. It was so good to meet you, Chris! But it felt like we were sitting there forever after awhile. I guess we kinda were! After brunch we headed over to the gift shops and looked around.

12:30pm Shandi and I took a walk around the beach and hotel to explore and take pictures. We walked down to the pier and back, and then went around the hotel and walked toward the casino. We saw Keith, the production manager from the night before as we were walking. He was on his cell phone so I tried not to interrupt, but I still smiled and said hey to him, and he raised his arm in greeting. Then I realized it was 1:00pm and we were supposed to be back to the room, so we headed back.

1:00pm I took a shower. We all got ready for the fan get-together at a place called Blow Fly Inn Restaurant, which Tani had arranged.

1:45pm We were on our way out the main entrance of the hotel and just inside the doors of the hotel I saw Kathie. I said hey to her and she greeted me back, and as I drew closer, she lowered her voice as she said “Kristen…out the door…to your left…Lawrence Gowan.” I stood there for a second, struck with utter disbelief. It was a short spell, though, and I bolted out the door to find that the rest of the party I was with had just discovered this and was in the same state of shock. Lawrence Gowan and Todd Sucherman were standing right there in front of us. I have done the best I can to recount the following few minutes, but just so you know, I had a lot of help remembering everything ;) It was all sort of a blur and you could say I was a LITTLE starstruck!!

The first thing I recall is wondering if we were allowed to go up and talk to them. I mean we were passing by, we could at least say hello, right? I didn’t have to wonder long because as soon as Larry saw Cindy, he ran over to her and said “Are you all right, Cuz??!” In the past Cindy had told him that their ancestors were from the same Scottish clan so apparently he’d grown accustomed to calling her that :) She told him she was okay, but still sore. He gave her a hug.
